Cross Country on bikes aka Cyclocross came to Stratford on Sunday with over 500 riders and another 250 spectators massing at Johnsons Coach Yard in Henley in Arden for the Annual Stratford CC Cyclocross event; round 3 of the West Midlands league. The sport is attracting a huge surge in interest with its safe yet physically demanding off road courses which create great racing and which help to improve bike skills and physical endurance. The races are run over a set time with under 6 year olds competing for 10 minutes and the adults racing for 50 minutes. Stratford club riders competed across all age ranges and acquitted themselves admirably with both rookie riders and highly experienced experts giving their all on a splendid twisting course in fine weather.
Club rider highlights of the day include Mary Heenan, 3rd in U6 girls; Ruben Stringfellow, (pictured) 6th in U8 boys; Zoe Parker had her best ride to date with a 3rd in the competitive U12 girls. Spencer Corder continued to dominate U12 boys with another clear win. David Hird had an excellent ride to 5th in the extremely fast U16 boys. Women had their own race this year, with 33 riders on the line. Stratford members Alison Bagnall and rookie Julieann Parker both had good rides, finishing 22nd and 28th respectively.
SCC have regular training and competitive events and are always happy to welcome new members. Those interested should just visit the club website at http://www.stratfordcyclingclub.co.uk/
