Are your bar ends in?
Installing bar ends
It's one of the things you hear at the start of every race. As the riders line up you will hear the commissaires asking 'Can any of you put your fingers in the ends of your bars?'.
It may seem like an odd question, but it's a really important saftey check. To race, all bikes must have bar ends in place. If you think about it, a handlebar without a bar end is not that different from an apple corer, and in the instance of a crash nobody wants that heading towards their legs at speed.
So, we have to make sure that all bikes are safe and have bar ends correctly inserted. Thankfully they are usually cheap plastic stoppers and are easy to fit. If you have any questions, ask the coaches and they can help.
