Get ready for Cyclocross
There's a bike in here somewhere...
It's nearly time for the Cyclocross season to get underway. If you've not tried Cyclocross before, it's a great way to start racing and is a lot of fun. Expect to get muddy!
For Juniors, cyclocross encourages great bike handling skills and can really build confidence for racing. A tumble onto grass is easier than onto hard tarmac and the flow of a cross race is very different, so easier to feel involved from start to finish.
In our region you can sign up for the West Midlands Cyclocross League - a popular, competitive but fun league with races across the region, many within easy reach of Stratford. It's a good idea to sign up for the league if you can - closing date for signatures is 26 August and places are limited. More details are on the WMCCL website: http://wmccl.co.uk/2018-2019-league-registration/
There are loads of resources on the British Cycling website to help you get started, and of course our own coaches will be taking junior riders onto the new cyclocross course at Stratford from September for training.
And of course, John Johnson will be running our own Stratford CC Cyclocross event on the weekend of the 22/23 September. The event location is at the yard in Henley-in-Arden again and once again we expect to attract between 450 and 500 riders, so it will be a busy day! This is always a popular event, so whatever help you can offer would be welcome. Please speak to the coaches if you can lend a hand.
So time to get the knobbly tyres on the bike and head for the mud!
