Our voluntary coaches are all:
Monday night coaching sessions
The mainstay of the youth section is the Monday night coaching sessions. During the winter months we concentrate on off-road skills, with many of our riders participating in the West Midlands Cyclo Cross League. We also run a mini Stratford Cyclo Cross League, consisting of participants’ 7 best WMCCL events.
After the February half term break we move to the track, preparing for the summer racing season.
On your first visit to either a track or cyclo-cross session, our qualified coaches will be happy to assess your riding skills – this will ensure you are placed in the most suitable coaching group.
The cost of the coaching sessions is £3 per child per session, payable either weekly or on a termly basis (in advance). There is a sibling discount of £5 if paying for two children, on a termly basis only. Cheques can be made payable to Stratford Cycling Club.
Please note: our coaching groups are not categorised on age but on riding ability.
The club provides five different coaching levels to suit all ages and abilities:
Group 1: For young/novice riders to learn the basic skills and techniques of bike riding.
Group 2: For more experienced young riders to improve their basic and intermediate skills and techniques
Group 3: The next step for riders to develop their skills using the whole 400m track.
Group 4: For older and more experienced riders to practise their skills and race-craft. During the spring / summer coaching sessions, held on the tarmac track, riders in this group need to train using the correct age-category restricted gears as required by British Cycling. This is good practice for riders wishing to participate in racing.
PURPLE: For Race-Craft Experts. Riders must show a clear racing commitment (Track, Circuit or Mountain Biking); be willing to put in their own training blocks outside of normal sessions; and be performing at a high-paced level. Attendance is strictly by invitation only. This group operates during the spring / summer track season only.
Riders must be members of SCC. The bikes should be adjusted to the gear restrictions that are required by British Cycling for track racing. Details of the gear restrictions can be accessed by clicking here.
Cost per rider per session is £3.00.
